In the later part of 2014, Michael Clarke suffered with back and hamstrung injuries and played only the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Tropy against India. He was ruled out of the Carlton Mid ODI Tri-Series 2015 tri-series against India and England. Michael Clarke is rehabilitating and is likely to be part of the Australian team in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 if he proves his fitness.

In February 2015, Michael Clarke said that he is ready to play under the captaincy of Steven Smith, who led Australia to victory in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
