Australia won the ICC Cricket World Cup 1999. They defeated Pakistan in the final. The Australian team was led by Steve Waugh.

Australia played South Africa in two epic matches four days apart. Australia won the first match courtesy of 120(110) by Steve Waugh to reach the target of 272 from 3/48. The second match which is semi-finals of the World Cup ended in a tie. Shane Warne bowled superbly to bowl out South Africa for 213. A tie-match meant that Australia will advance to the final since they won the previous encounter between both the teams. Damien Fleming bowled the last over in the semi-final. He threw under-arm to Wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist to run out Allan Donald.
